Helloooooooo!!
I’m SO happy about this post that I can hardly stand it! Believe me! I’ve been expecting it since the last Academy Awards … for real.
My dear friend, the super-talented Karlos Otero, has made his predictions for The Oscars 2017, and I CAN’T wait to show them to you.
As you probably know, the Academy Awards will be happening this Sunday (02/20), so Karlos will help us have an idea of what we’ll see.
You ready?
Here.we.GO.

Wonderful to see that this year we had quite the variety amongst the films nominated. Drama, action, comedy, and even sci-fi.
Without spinning too much around it, let me just start by coming clean and coming out as the biggest “La La Land” fan in the entire world. I feel like I just don’t have to justify the fact that it is my pick for almost every category the film is in.
It is truly a masterpiece from every stand point and there’s no way to discredit it. The chills-inducing score, the outstanding performances, the heartbreaking script, the beautiful scenery, the incredible soundtrack… Every little thing about the movie is perfection and it definitely goes down as one of my all-time favorites. It’s one of those love stories that pretty much change… everything.
Other personal favorites include Arrival and Hidden Figures. Do not get the hype behind Moonlight. Although I loved it, and of course I relate to its theme, I felt like it was inconclusive and a little bit rushed at the end.
We’ll see how everything fairs on the night of February 26th when the Oscars air live across the globe. In the meantime, here are my predictions and some commentary in some of my favorite categories:
BEST PICTURE

Who will take it: La La Land
My personal favorite: La La Land
La La Land is one of the most tragical love stories there are, wrapped in a full package of beautiful scenery, an outstanding and witty script and the most captivating performance by Emma Stone.
ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Who will take it: Casey Affleck
My personal favorite: Andrew Garfield
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Who will take it: Emma Stone
My personal favorite: Emma Stone / Natalie Portman
The way that Natalie embodies Jackie Kennedy is breathtaking and that’s a performance that I will never forget watching. Emma, on the other hand, had a much less demanding role but played it with such ease and naturalness. You couldn’t help but wrap yourself in the tragedies of her character. Let us never forget this magical moment:
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Who will take it: Mahershala Ali
My personal favorite: Dev Patel / Michael Shannon
Don’t get the hype behind Mahershala’s performance. Besides, he was only in the movie for like 15 minutes. All odds point to him as the winner though, and to be fair what we saw of him was good. Glad the Academy recognized Shannon’s performance and Dev was incredible, he would be my pick.
ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Who will take it: Viola Davis
My personal favorite: Viola Davis
This is one of the tougher categories. Octavia was charming and inspiring as always, Nicole was a surprise for me (as in she really delivered), Naomie was incredible, but to me, whenever there’s VIOLA, there’s no competition.
ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
Who will take it: Zootopia
My personal favorite: Moana
The academy will probably go with the wrong Disney film. As much as I love Zootopia, Moana was outstanding in every way. The animation was out of this world and the story itself make it one of my all-time Disney films.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
Who will take it: La La Land
My personal favorite: Arrival / La La Land
Haven’t gotten around to Silence but, apart from it, this is one of those categories that you just want to award every single film. As I’m writing I get photographic flashes of each of the films and they’re breathtaking. La La Land will rightfully take the award, but I wouldn’t be mad or surprised if Arrival (a.k.a a MASTERPIECE) snatches it.
COSTUME DESIGN
Who will take it: Jackie
My personal favorite: Jackie
As much as I die for Fantastic Beasts, I got to go with Jackie. These pieces perfectly captured the time and essence of its leading woman. There’s something iconic about it.

DIRECTING
Who will take it: Darrien Chazelle
My personal favorite: Darrien Chazelle
Never has there been a clearer winner for me, and I hope by saying that I’m not taking away credit from the other incredible films. Chazelle brought to life an incredible script through colorful and emotion-filled visuals, incredible cinematography and an out-of-this-world aesthetic. Give this man a unique statue! He deserves it!
MUSIC (ORIGINAL SCORE)
Who will take it: La La Land
My personal favorite: Jackie / La La Land
MUSIC (ORIGINAL SONG)
Who will take it: City of Stars
My personal favorite: City of Stars
This song right here means so much to me, that’s all I will say. It will rightfully and without a doubt take this award.
PRODUCTION DESIGN
Who will take it: La La Land
My personal favorite: La La Land
Have you SEEN the movie? ‘Nuff said.
VISUAL EFFECTS
Who will take it: The Jungle Book
My personal favorite: Doctor Strange
I won’t mind if TJB takes this award, its visuals are stunning, but Doctor Strange’ visuals are a trip.
WRITING (ADAPTED SCREENPLAY)
Who will take it: Moonlight
My personal favorite: Arrival / Hidden Figures
Moonlight will take this one. Whenever a Sci-Fi film competes with Drama features I feel like it’s unfair. I would personally give this award to Arrival, but I know that’s not happening.
WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY)
Who will take it: La La Land
My personal favorite: La La Land
Like I said… HAVE YOU SEEN THE FILM?
If after reading this, you are not making plans to go see «La La Land», I can’t understand you xD
I’m thankful because Karlos found time to do this for us. Feel free to comment and let me know if you agree with him or not!
Remember The Oscars will be on this Sunday, February 26th.
See you next week! 😉
