To my younger self

Think about your life for a minute.

Isn’t it true that no matter how great things are right now, there are always two or three things you wish could have been different?

If possible, you would happily travel to the past and give some advice to your younger self or, perhaps, you would do something for him, something you know he needs: give him a hug, a home, a chance.

“Don’t be so afraid. Speak up. People will listen”, would be the phrase in my case.

I’d give my younger self a hug and I’d repeat her how much I love her until she actually believes it. She doesn’t need to prove herself, I’d make her realize. She’s perfect for God just how she is.

I would do that because I know she needs it. I know she fears so much to do wrong that she’d rather do nothing, but God didn’t create her to live like that.

I wish I had seen that truth earlier and I wonder what could have changed If I had. Perhaps I would have saved my younger self some pain and tears caused by fear.

Sadly, I can’t talk to her about it.

But you know what? After reading The Sea Keeper’s Daughter by Lisa Wingate, I understood there is something I can do and it doesn’t require a time machine:

I can say and do those very same things for a girl around me

What I wish someone had told me, I can tell another so she doesn’t go through it the way I did.

I can go and tell a girl in her teens: “Don’t be so afraid. You have God on your side, there is nothing to fear in Him”. I can give her that hug and reassure her I love her just as I needed to be loved.

And this applies to you as well.

That speech you needed to hear, that chance you wish someone had offered to you, now you can give them to someone else at the right time.

How many lives could be different if we decide to do just that?

Let’s do this.

Let’s do for someone else what we wish someone had done for us and let’s see the impact that can make. We could be surprised by realizing that, yes, it blesses the other person but, somehow, is blesses us even more.
